Do I need an appointment?

Nope. Easy Emissions is fully drive-thru, so just pull up during open hours and we help drivers first come, first served. Most visits are done in under 10 minutes.

How much does an emissions test cost?

At our West Haven station an emissions test is $35. In Layton, an OBD-II test (1996 and newer) is $45 and a two-speed idle test (1995 and older) is $50. We can also complete your DMV registration renewal for $10 at either location (renewal service fee, government fees not included).

What do I need to bring?

Bring your vehicle, your registration or DMV renewal notice, and a form of payment. Lost the paperwork? Come anyway, we can usually look it up and help you sort it out.

How long does it take?

Most cars can be tested and registered in less than 10 minutes. In Davis County, cars 1995 and older need a Two-Speed Idle test, which can take up to 30 minutes. Weber County is phasing out the Two-Speed Idle test for most 1995 and older vehicles, though it may still apply if your registration expired in 2025 and has not been renewed. Call ahead if you are not sure which applies to you.

Do you test diesels?

Yes! We can test diesel trucks. Emissions testing is required for trucks that are 1998 and newer, and have a weight (GVWR) of less than 14,000 lbs.

What is On The SPOT registration renewal?

On The SPOT is a Department of Motor Vehicles program that allows you to renew your registration and get your new sticker through Easy Emissions instead of going to the DMV or getting it online or by mail and waiting for it to arrive. To renew your registration you will have to pay your annual state taxes and fees. Because we are authorized to distribute registration stickers on behalf of the DMV we are able to use their website to facilitate the process. This process can only be completed via debit or credit card.

Can you renew my registration on the spot?

Yes. We are authorized by the Utah DMV to renew your registration and hand you your new sticker right at the shop for $10, so you can skip the trip to the DMV. The $10 is our service fee; state taxes and fees are separate.

How do I pay my state taxes for registration renewal?

We are authorized to distribute registration stickers on behalf of the Department of Motor Vehicles. Because we use their website to facilitate the process, the transaction can only be completed via debit or credit card.

We are open Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Closed Sunday.

What if my vehicle fails?

If your vehicle does not pass, we will explain exactly what failed so you can get it repaired. Bring it back when your repairs are done and we will test it again for free. Because we love our customers, we offer unlimited free retests.

Which vehicles need an emissions test?

It depends on your vehicle’s model year and the current calendar year. Use the table below to see if your vehicle needs an emissions inspection this year. Vehicle model year 2026: Not Required. 2025: Not Required*. 2024: Required. 2023: Not Required*. 2022: Required. 2021: Not Required*. 1996 to 2020: Required (OBD-II test). 1969 to 1995: Required in Davis County (Two-Speed Idle test)**. 1968 and older: Not Required. * Out-of-state vehicles being registered in Utah for the first time need an emissions test even in a year marked Not Required. ** Weber County is phasing out the Two-Speed Idle test for most 1969 to 1995 vehicles, though it may still apply if your registration expired in 2025 and has not been renewed. Vehicles with vintage or antique plates that are 1982 or older are exempt. Call us if you are not sure.

What payment methods do you accept?

For your emissions test and our $10 renewal fee we take cash, all major debit and credit cards, and mobile wallets like Apple Pay. Your annual state registration taxes can only be paid by debit or credit card.

If my check engine light is on, can my car still pass?

Unfortunately, a check engine light will always cause your car to fail the emissions inspection. A mechanic can help you figure out the cause of the check engine light.

Do you test motor homes?

We can test motor homes under 10 feet tall at our West Haven location, but our Layton location only has 8-foot bay doors, so we can’t test them there.

Can you renew registration for recreational vehicles?

Unfortunately, the DMV has stopped letting newer stations do registration for recreational vehicles. Since we opened just a few years ago, they didn’t let us get set up to do that type of registration.

I just moved to Utah from another state. What do I need to do to get my car registered?

1. To be registered in Davis or Weber County, most cars need an emissions inspection. Because you are registering in Utah for the first time, your vehicle will need a test even if the table above shows your model year as Not Required. 2. We can help you with the inspection. Please bring your vehicle registration from the previous state. 3. After you pass the emissions inspection, you will need to go to the DMV to complete the registration. In subsequent years, we will be able to help you with the registration renewal, but the first year it must be done at the DMV.

My registration is past due, can I still do On The Spot registration with you?

If your vehicle registration is less than 9 months past due, then we can help you renew your registration with On The Spot. However, if your registration is 9 months or more overdue, you will have to go to the DMV to renew your registration.

Do I have to be the owner, or can someone else bring my car in?

Accepted Answer

You do not have to be the owner. Anyone can bring the vehicle in for its emissions test. Just have the registration or renewal notice and a form of payment along.
